I feel we need to examine this in two ways. The typical homemade salsa ingredients and the typical store-bought salsa in a jar ingredients.

The primary ingredients in homemade salsa are tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and jalapeno peppers or other chili peppers. Depending on the recipe, other ingredients such as garlic, lime juice, cumin, and salt may be added. Sometimes the ingredients are roasted.

I consider Tostitos to be a popular brand of salsa. So let’s use that as an example of the typical store-bought salsa.

Yes, salsa is typically gluten free. As long as all of the ingredients used to make it are gluten free, the salsa will be gluten free.

Yes, Tostitos salsa is gluten free. Tostitos salsa has vinegar listed as an ingredient. When vinegar is listed as a single word, it means it is from cider vinegar or apple vinegar which are gluten free sources of vinegar.

Be sure to check the labels of any store-bought salsas to make sure they are gluten free. 

Is Tostitos Salsa con Queso Gluten Free?

Yes, and no. It depends on the jar you look at. When I looked at the ingredients for this product it says it is made with modified corn starch, which is gluten free.

On the Tostitos website, the ingredients say it is made with modified food starch which can be made from either corn or wheat. Look at the label and double-check.

Is Pace Salsa Gluten Free?

Yes, Pace salsa is gluten free. The ingredients have distilled vinegar which is gluten free.
